මූනතුඩු මැදි-පිලිහුඩුවා/Stork-billed Kingfisher(Pelargopsis capensis)

2024 April @Udawattakele Forest Reserve

The first observation is at Udawattakele Forest Reserve. The largest kingfisher that can be seen in Sri Lanka. The head is olive-brown with dark green-blue upperparts and buff underparts. Wings and tail bluer, with rump even paler blue, obvious in flight.

  2024 June @ Seethawaka This species is endemic to southern India and Sri Lanka. Although both species have a yellow vent and can sound similar, White-browed can be distinguished by its brown face and white eyebrows. Usually occurs in pairs and tends to skulk in undergrowth.
