2024 Jan @Diyasaru Park, Battaramulla

The first observation is at Diyasaru Park, Battaramulla. It is endemic to Sri Lanka. It was previously considered a subspecies of the greater racket-tailed drongo. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland and montane forests.

සැළලිහිනියා/Sri Lanka hill myna(Gracula ptilogenys)

  2024 July @Seethawaka The first observation is at Udawatta sanctuary, Kandy.  This endemic beauty is  typically found in forest and cultivation. The Sri Lanka myna builds a nest in a hole. The normal clutch is two eggs. These 25 cm long birds have green-glossed black plumage, purple-tinged on the head and neck. There are large white wing patches, which are obvious in flight.
