The Asian koel is a common observation during April ( Awurudu season ).  Adult males & females are completely different in appearance. The male is glossy black, but the female black with white dots. Both have ruby-red eyes.

The long tongue can be darted forward to capture insects. The lesser yellownape is a type of woodpecker, a widespread and often common breeder in tropical and sub-tropical Asia, primarily the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.
